![]() I have an 1875 Singer with a cotton string belt, and has plenty of power. I have seen leather belts for sewing machines on ebay, but sometimes even a long piece of tightly-tied string around the pullies works nicely too. Also, since this a treadle machine, I recon you will need a new belt. Just make sure to oil all moving joints and parts, from top to bottom to prevent wear and improve function. These machine are relatively easy to oil, there are holes in the body where a few drops my be applied, and this should in most cases get her up and running smooth. With my sewing machine, I just use a few drops of sewing machine oil or household general purpose oil, every once in a while. ![]() ![]() Also, with a little extra time, a sewing machine repair man is often unnecessary. ![]() I find a damp, gentle, soft cloth works nicely. ![]() Some things to mention, I would definitely discourage using alcohol to clean the machine, especially on the decals, as this may damage the finish, on both wood and paint. Hi, I do a bit of work on the old sewing machines. There is no information on the model # for the early Singers based on serial number. ![]()
